National Weather Summary

Weather Underground midday recap for Wednesday, February 22, 2012.

Unsettled weather will continue across the northwestern quadrant of the nation on Wednesday, while more snow showers fell across parts of the Great Lakes and the Northeast.

In the West, another front in a series of disturbances moved through the northwestern U.S. This resulted in continued wet weather from the Pacific Northwest eastward through the Rockies and then into the Northern High Plains. Light to moderate rain showers with high elevation snow persisted over portions of the Pacific Northwest through the northern Rockies, while rain showers began to form in the Northern High Plains and the northern Central Plains. Meanwhile, the strong jet streaming across the Northwest combined with the strong pressure gradient over the region led to strong winds and high wind gusts through the afternoon. A variety of High Wind Warnings and High Wind Advisories remained in effects for much of the region through the day.

In the East, low pressure in southeastern Canada kicked up more scattered snow showers along parts of the Great Lakes snow belt. Meanwhile, scattered rain showers developed in parts of the eastern Tennessee Valley and the Ohio Valley, ahead of a warm front lifting through the Mid-Mississippi Valley and western Tennessee Valley.
