Dexter hockey team falls to Jackson Lumen Christi in Division 3 regional semifinal
Despite two third-period goals from Jake Waldrup to take a one-point lead late in the game, the Dexter High School boys hockey team's season came to an end with a 4-3 overtime loss to Jackson Lumen Christi.
Waldrup scored his two goals in a three-minute span in the middle of the third period to give Dexter the lead in the Division 3 regional semifinal Thursday at the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea, but Lumen Christi's Nick Stevens tied it with 4:14 on the clock.
With about five seconds left, the Dreadnaughts (8-17-1) took the puck down the ice and got a shot off that sailed just wide of the Lumen Christi goal.
With 40 seconds left In overtime, the puck bounced off a Dexter defender in the Dreadnaughts' zone, and Lumen Christi sent it toward the goal. Dexter goalie Cameron Rooks (37 saves) made the stop, but it came off his pads and Lumen Christi's Chad Cesarz rifled in the game-winner.
