The man accused of shooting two men on Oct. 17 at the Village Grove Apartments is headed to trial on Feb. 27, according to court documents.

Jermaine Beverly, 24, is accused of going into an unlocked apartment at the complex where three men and three women were hanging out. According to police, the occupants asked Beverly to leave before he pulled out a gun and opened fire.

An Ypsilanti Township man was shot once in the head and a Romulus man was shot once in the chest, police said. The other man was robbed of his cash, but no one else was injured, according to police.

Beverly is charged with two counts each of assault with intent to murder and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, plus one charge each of armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, intimidating witnesses, being a felon in possession of a firearm and a felony firearm charge.

Beverly is the only man charged in the shooting.

If convicted, Beverly faces life in prison.

Beverly was in front of Washtenaw County Trial Court Judge David Swartz Thursday for a final pretrial hearing.

He’s currently being held in the Washtenaw County Jail on a $300,000 bond. He has previous convictions for possessing less than 25 grams of cocaine and is on probation for a 2009 conviction for third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim between the ages of 13 and 15, according to state records.

Beverly also faces charges of failing to comply with sexual offender reporting duties.
