Saline area primary races heating up, especially in York Township

Note: There could be additional filings for some offices that were not posted on the county’s Website as of Tuesday night. The deadline for partisan candidates to file to run in the Aug. 7 primary came and went Tuesday. In the Saline area, there were a large number of candidates filing for the Aug. 7 primary, especially in York Township, where voters will have four choices for supervisor, and that's just for starters.

When Missy Caulk was raising her five children, she was a self-described helicopter parent: She was a member of a network of parents in Saline who kept tabs on each other's kids and she didn’t miss a single football game, violin recital or school concert. So it’s no surprise, she says now, that she wants to know what middle child Jamie is doing in heaven.

Updated story: Saline mistakenly awards swim coach Todd Brunty national coach of the year The Saline High School boys swimming and diving team hosted its first meet of the season on Thursday and -- to the surprise of no one -- won by nearly 100 points over visiting Tecumseh. Such margins of victory have become commonplace for the swimming program under coach Todd Brunty. What happened poolside during the meet’s intermission, however, was anything but. Brunty was presented with the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association coach of the year award.
