Dexter Community Schools gearing up to select district's next superintendent
The Dexter Community Schools Board of Education is preparing to select the district's next superintendent.
According to a report in the Dexter Leader, the posting for the superintendent position is about to close and the first round of public interviews has been set for the week of March 25.
The first round of interviews will be conducted by Dexter Community Schools staff members and a second group of candidates will be chosen from this process to advance to the next round, the Leader said.
A second series of interviews will take place the week of April 8 when the candidates are expected to visit the district and its facilities, the Leader reported. According to the article, the second round of interviews and the school visits will be open to the public, as well as to staff and students. Finalist will be selected after the visits.
Former Dexter Superintendent Mary Marshall, who had been with the district for 20 years, resigned in October to take a superintendent's position with Pentwater Public Schools. Pentwater is a small district of 283 students in a beach town along Lake Michigan. Dexter schools had fall enrollment of 3,566.
In October, Marshall told AnnArbor.com that Pentwater's quaintness, its strong community and lifestyle appealed to her and that the town fits her "longer range life plan" for her family.
Dennis Desmarais, a longtime educator from the Riverview Community School District, has been serving as the interim superintendent for Dexter schools since Marshall's departure in December.

One would hope Mr Dennis Desmarais may apply. His "track record" during his interim time has been impressive.

We can only cross our fingers and Hope the Dexter School Board does Better than Ann Arbor of Ypsilanti did!

Ann Arbor can't keep one for very long either. It's not a function of pay so much, more likely they get tired of dealing with overbearing parents who micromanage everything they do and complain loudly if any real change is attempted. So they move on for greener pastures and a new group of busy bodies to oversee them............

The Dexter School Board has completely dropped the ball when it comes to hiring anybody at any capacity. The hiring practices of the district need to be looked at much closer and that includes replacing decision makers. I graduated 10 years ago from Dexter and they have gone through countless super's who just use the district as a springboard for better job's. Do your research this stuff is getting old.

My sources tell me that Marshall was liked by some, and disliked by some - tended to be political. She was ruthlessly #1 to herself, but was good at playing the "motherly caring" superindent role. Paid attention to the political wind, and threw her first hired AD under the bus, when he tried to do the right thing... set off a chain reaction of instability in the athletic dept. for tree years. Word has it, glad she's gone. Looking forward to a better super.

It dosen't really say how long she performed her job as a super, can't really blame her for leaving to make the big bucks like all the rest.
