An impatient driver struck a 31-year-old Ann Arbor woman who was standing in a parking spot while trying to save it for her friend Friday night.

Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said the woman was driving around with friends trying to find a parking spot. At 8:08 p.m., they spotted an open spot at a parking lot at Fourth Avenue and Catherine Street and the woman got out of the car to stand in the spot while her friend circled back around.

The woman told police a gray Saturn pulled into the front of the parking spot while the woman was standing in it. The woman told the driver she was saving the spot for her friend while she turned around.

The driver of the Saturn elected to continue to drive into the spot, striking the 31-year-old woman in the knees and causing her to fall on the hood of the car, Bush said.

The woman did not need medical attention but told police her knees were sore. The woman was able to identify the suspect vehicle and provided police with a license plate number.

Ann Arbor police were still investigating the incident Monday morning and no arrests had been made.
